Call me Scrooge McDuck, but I really don't like spending money. That is, I don't like spending money unless I feel like I'm getting a real deal. I loved spending the 49 cents (plus 2 cents for tax) for the new cute blue shoes for Seth at the thrift store AmVets yesterday.
But if it's not a screaming deal, I don't do well. Anxiety, guilt, cold sweats. Okay, maybe not cold sweats. But even with little expenses it's an issue. If it's not a necessity, I just don't want to buy it. For example, I refuse to spend the 50 cents to place a hold at the library. That's maybe more a matter of principle though. I probably spend more than 50 cents on gas going to the farther library to get the book that I won't put on hold. C'mon, it's a public library people. Making us pay... ::shaking fist::
Anyway.
I also take our budget very seriously. When I make my grocery list for the week I roughly calculate how much things will be so I don't go over our grocery budget. I've definitely been known to forgo the little extras to be right on budget. No popcorn, no honey, no ice cream. And we eat well, but we don't have much extra.
So when it comes to spending money on plane tickets it's hurts. It hurts bad. Holiday prices are especially brutal, even if you do get the cheapest tickets possible. I see the dollar signs starring at me, I glup, and think, "How many months of groceries is that?" ...goes into...carry the two... 7 months. 7 months?!?? 7 months.
I'm putting back the $2 box graham crackers only to burn 7 months worth of food on plane tickets? How is that justifiable?
It's been eating away at me lately. So do your best to save your pennies. It feels good. Until you have to fork them out, then it's sad.
50 cents to hold a book?! that's crazy talk! I get mad when I forget to pick up a hold item and they charge me $1 to put it back on the shelf!!!!!!
