The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

Forgive the title if need be. Because this book is superb and you have to read it.

I'm convinced I can't write a decent enough review of it. So I'm not going to try...

But I will say, I think it must have been exquisitely difficult to weave it all together in the letter format without having holes or having the historical accounts drag. But it's very satisfyingly complete and quick-reading.

I will also say what I loved about it.

1. Authors' writing & storytelling. I love the detail-oriented freshness and personalness.
2. Juliet and Kit. I love their spunk and sass.
3. The quarky Guernsey people. I want to visit there now...along with every other reader.
4. The history. New perspective in stories about soldiers and civilians in WWII.
5. Their literary society and love of literature. I just started Jane Eyre because of Juliet's mention of it. And I soon intend to read Charles Lamb and Oscar Wilde as well.

It's just charming. And not in a feminine-only kind of way. Really.

  1. I loved this book! (we should have our own computer book club - we're reading all the same stuff, apparently) I was a little put off by the title and avoided reading it for a while. Shame!
